BOOM SCROLL: MAY 2025

May 1, 2025

Need to speed-read your social feed? Here’s the social intel from last month you definitely need to know.

#1 Instagram: Insta Edits

Instagram officially launched Edits, its video creation app for Apple and Android, packed with fab features (greenscreen! cutouts! AI image-to-video!)

💥 The Boom

  • Featuring an in-app camera, Reels previews, and a watermark-free export, Edits aims to be the go-to all-in-one social creation app.
  • The buzz is strong and creators are liking it — for now.

Our take

With TikTok/ CapCut on another 90-day reprieve, your team should be testing Insta Edits. Meta is putting a lot of resources behind making it the best, so if it’s not there yet, it will be soon.

#2 LinkedIn: creates Create

Ever ask yourself “what should I be doing on LinkedIn?” Well, the network has  launched “Create on LinkedIn” — a mini website packed with expert guidance, best practices, and inspiration.

💥 The Boom

Our take

Bookmark it! Your social team and any would-be LinkedIn thought-leaders need it now. There’s no better way to learn how to do LinkedIn than from the network itself.

#3 YouTube: streams ahead

Per Nielsen’s TV and streaming report “The Gauge,” YouTube is now the #1 streamer in the U.S.

💥 The Boom

  • Broadcast (20.5%) and Cable (24%) still rule, but YouTube now accounts for 12% of total U.S. TV/streaming time.
  • Netflix comes in 2nd (7.9%) and Disney+ in 3rd.

Our take

Yes, YouTube is a social media network. But, it’s also a top streaming app and one of the most popular podcast platforms. And it’s showing no signs of slowing down. If you’re not regularly posting longform and Shorts there, you’re behind.

#4 Threads: The ads have landed!

Meta says eligible advertisers around the world can now add the Threads feed to their ad placements.

💥 The Boom

  • Ad placement is auto-included in Advantage+ campaigns.
  • You can toggle it on/off when you select your placements.
  • Why? Threads boasts over 320M monthly active users and ranks in the Top 5 downloaded apps monthly, regularly.

Our take

Ask your paid team if the Threads placement is available to your accounts. If yes, full steam ahead! Threads users aren’t used to ads in their feeds (yet), so run some tests to see what works and what doesn’t to help you reach your goals.
