BOOM SCROLL: JUNE 2025
June 13, 2025
Need to speed-read your social feed? Here’s the social intel from last month you definitely need to know.
#1 All Social: Crumbl faces the music
Warner Music Group (WMG) slapped Crumbl Cookies with a $23.85 million lawsuit. The crime? Using music from WMG artists without permission on social media.
💥 The Boom
- WMG flagged 159 posts at $150,000 per unauthorized clip.
- And that’s just the WMG lawsuit. How many other labels are lining up behind them?
Our take
The lesson here? If you don’t own it, don’t use it. That means music, images, video, even memes. Using copyrighted content without permission or purchasing the rights is illegal. With AI growing smarter by the day, even the smallest orgs could soon find themselves on the receiving end of a takedown notice and an eyewatering invoice.
#2 Instagram: Live has limits
Insta Chief Adam Mosseri just gave it to us straight: Going live won’t magically boost your follower count. Full stop.
💥 The Boom
- Live only reaches your existing followers, and only a fraction of them.
- Collaborating with another live account won’t help much either.
Our take
So how do you grow on Insta? The answer is Reels (and Carousels to a lesser extent). Make them engaging and shareable and your following will grow over time. The real key? Create amazing content, and the right audience will find it, whether they follow you or not.
#3 LinkedIn: Rolling out the red carpet for influencers
LinkedIn is making big moves with a new B2B Influencer Guide and expanded ad placements into influencer video pre-rolls. Translation? LinkedIn is officially all-in on influencers.
💥 The Boom
- BrandLink (fka LinkedIn Wire) now lets you place ads in the pre-roll of influencer videos on the platform.
- They dropped their new B2B Influencer Guide here.
Our take
B2B influencer marketing is no longer niche. If you’re not already doing it, it’s time to start. Think: less entertainment, more education and expertise. B2B buyers prefer video over other social formats, so go scout some collabs.
#4 Threads: more love for links
Thanks to profile updates, expanded reporting, and algorithm tweaks, Meta has signaled that Threads is here for your outbound links.
💥 The Boom
- Unlike other networks where links can tank your reach, Threads now welcomes them.
- You can now add up to five links on your bio.
- Plus, Threads has added link analytics and updated its algorithm to promote posts with links.
Our take
Threads has blown past 350 million monthly active users, and these latest link-friendly updates will only fuel its growth. Rolling out the welcome mat for outbound links? A genius move that differentiates the platform from the competition. Once again, if you’re not on Threads, what are you waiting for?
