BOOM SCROLL: JULY 2025
July 10, 2025
Need to speed-read your social feed? Here’s the social intel from last month you definitely need to know.
#1 Facebook: Reels get real
Meta just announced that within a few months, every video you upload to Facebook will be a Reel.
💥 The Boom
- The confusing choice between uploading a Video or a Reel is going away.
- Length and dimensions no longer matter—all video uploads will automatically become Reels.
- The Video tab on Facebook will also be renamed the Reels tab.
Our take
This change won’t affect your strategy, but it could boost your views as every video you upload gets a chance to shine in the new Reels tab. Just don’t be surprised when your analytics get a lot simpler, with Facebook merging all video and Reels views into a single metric.
#2 LinkedIn: Tips its B2B video hat
LinkedIn Editor in Chief Tequia Burt just dropped 13 tips for creating compelling B2B video content on the platform. And her recos are worth reading, as LinkedIn video is booming.
💥 The Boom
- Video viewing on LinkedIn is up 36% in the last year.
- Video creation is growing 2X as fast as any other post format.
- You can now add video headers to your LinkedIn articles and newsletters.
Our take
When a platform tells you what content to make, listen. LinkedIn isn’t just giving you best practices—they’re showing you exactly what their algorithm wants to see. Heed their advice and the feed will reward you. Read the tips here.
#3 X: The ads they are a-changing
Elon Musk just announced two big changes for X ads: what can be in them, and how much they’ll cost.
💥 The Boom
- Hashtags are no longer allowed in ads.
- Ads will soon be priced based on their vertical image size—the shorter the image, the cheaper the ad.
Our take
Banning hashtags in ads is a good thing—hashtags pull users away from your post. As for the new pricing model, we’re still waiting on the details from X. And, keep in mind, policies on X can change on a whim.
#4 Threads: DMs slide in
It’s finally happening: Threads is rolling out Direct Messages to its global userbase.
💥 The Boom
- These are standalone, not an extension of your connected Instagram inbox.
- DMs were one of the platform’s most-requested features.
Our take
Threads continues to establish itself as its own platform, not just an Instagram add-on. By facilitating private convos in-app, expect longer user sessions now that sharing doesn’t require jumping over to Instagram or your group text.
#5 Pinterest: Pinteresting trends
Pinterest just released its Midyear Trends Report, and the takeaway is clear: users are craving an escape.
💥 The Boom
- YOY searches of “rustic farmhouse interiors,” “nature travel” and “literary escapes” related terms are surging.
- As are searches for “astrology makeup” and “cool-toned beauty” terms.
- The overall vibe? “Get me away from these screens (right after I pin this inspiration).”
Our take
Platform trend reports are an excellent way to understand the platform’s userbase. For Pinterest — where the userbase is primarily female (60-70%) aged 25-44 years (50%)—the desire for digital detox is strong right now. Tap into this mindset with the right content, and you’ll connect with pinners where they’re at. You can catch up on all the trends right now, right here.
