For many years I've dreamed of creating a PR agency that is based on a true and lasting partnership with my talented colleagues, an organization distinguished by its unbridled creativity and its unwavering commitment to its clients, and widely recognized as one of the best places to work in the industry. Finn Partners is the fulfillment of that dream.
For many of us our life paths are the result of opportunity and chance. I never intended to go into public relations. As a student I planned a career in academia. Both my undergraduate degree from Brown and my Masters from Columbia are in Literature. But like many recent grads, I found myself in need of a job, and as luck (or fate) would have it, there were very few academic openings in the mid 1970s. It turned out that there was an opening in the Ruder Finn research department for an interviewer. I took that job but I made it clear to my father, David Finn, that I would stay for no more than a year. That was in 1977, and now, I look back on a career that over more than 30 years saw me rise to director of research, CFO of the firm and then Co-CEO of the company.
Along the way I've played a central role in the development of the practices and offices that now make up Finn Partners. Technology has always been a passion of mine, and I helped build our practice from scratch through my efforts in strategic acquisitions and staff recruitment. Over the years I've recruited key executives and orchestrated a number of acquisitions that have also expanded our reach in consumer, tourism, media and public affairs, and in key markets, specifically Chicago, L.A., San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Recruiting senior talent has always been a primary focus for me, and over the years I have hired some of the finest talents in the PR field. The team that joined me in launching Finn Partners shares my commitment to the future of Finn Partners, and it is our collaboration that makes this company exceptional.
On a personal level, so much of what I learned through my work, my passion for the arts, and my commitment to give back, led me to found the Catskill Mountain Foundation, a multi-million dollar organization which has become a leader in arts based economic development which collaborates with important non-profits in upstate NY, in NYC and from around the US and the world. My efforts in arts based economic development have allowed me to develop relationships with elected officials at the local, state and federal level, as well as with important business leaders who share my commitment to the arts and to arts based economic development.
I've been privileged to have a rewarding career, but I have never been more optimistic about an opportunity than I am right now, as part of Finn Partners. It is both the culmination of a dream, and the beginning of what promises to be an extraordinary future.
